Sikh Delegates visited the Ateshgah Temple

On June 2, 2026, the Baku Initiative Group organized a special event at the Ateshgah Temple State Historical-Architectural Reserve. As part of the event, the participants of the international conference and foreign guests visited the Ateshgah temple complex, where they were provided with detailed information about the monument’s history, architectural features, as well as the centuries-old historical and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and India.

During the event, it was particularly emphasized that in the 17th–18th centuries, Sikh traders and pilgrims arriving from India visited the Ateshgah temple and performed their religious rites there. Additionally, participants received detailed information about the visit of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, to the region, and the temple’s function over different periods as a place of worship for various religious communities.

Guests were informed that the Ateshgah temple is an important historical example of Azerbaijan’s traditions of multiculturalism, religious tolerance, and cultural diversity. It was noted that this historical and architectural monument has contributed over the centuries to the development of mutual respect and coexistence values among different peoples and religious communities.

During the visit, participants became closely acquainted with the temple complex and obtained extensive information about Azerbaijan’s rich historical and cultural heritage, its traditions of tolerance, and values reflecting its role as a bridge between different cultures. The event was met with great interest by the guests and was accompanied by mutual exchanges of views.
