The international conference "Decolonization: Silent Revolution", organized by the Baku Initiative Group, has officially kicked off at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Experts, policymakers, activists, and pro-independence leaders from French and Dutch colonies have joined the warm discussions. Diplomats accredited to the UN are also among the participants.
The participants of the conference focused on the impact of colonialism on indigenous communities, discussing how colonial regimes erase collective memory and highlighting the various cultural, social, and political forms of resistance employed to preserve indigenous identity. They also examined the evolution of decolonization movements, the challenges these movements face under colonial rule, and the ongoing struggle for self-determination. The participants collectively emphasized the vital role of collective memory, strong political will, and international solidarity in advancing the decolonization process.
