The Path to Decolonization: Consequences of Assimilation and its Implications for the Realization of Human Rights

Continuing the efforts of the events held on September 22, 2023, in New York, USA, and on December 14, 2023, in Geneva, Switzerland, at the UN headquarters that focused on the fight against colonialism and its modern manifestations, the next destination for this campaign was the UN office in Vienna, Austria. At the international conference "The Path to Decolonization: Consequences of Assimilation and its implications for the realization of Human Rights” organized by the Baku Initiative Group, representatives from 20 countries convened on April 30, 2024, to discuss the topic.

Among them participated that suffered from the colonial policy of France, the party and movement leaders of New Caledonia, French Polynesia, French Guiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Wallis and Futuna, Corsica, and the Solomon Island Union, independent experts, think tanks as well as local and foreign media representatives. Additionally, diplomats from 25 countries, including 16 ambassadors, accredited to the Vienna branch of the UN participated in the event.
The event aimed to critique the cultural assimilation policy of the colonizers and explore possible solutions.
