Neocolonialism: Human Rights, Peace and Security
As a continuation of the series of events organized by the Baku Initiative Group, an international conference on the theme "Neocolonialism: Human Rights, Peace and Security" was held on December 14, 2023, at the UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. So, the international event coincides with the date of adoption of the Declaration on Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples accordingto resolution No. 1514 (XV) of the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1960.
Representatives of 22 countries, including the last colonies of France - French Guiana, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Kanaky (New Caledonia), Maohi Nui (French Polynesia), Corsica which suffered and are still suffering from the colonial policy of France, those of the former French colonies Senegal and Algeria, as well as participants from other countries got together by means of the Baku Initiative Group in Geneva on December 14, 2023.
The union members, party and movement leaders of the French overseas territories, representatives of non-governmental organizations, foreign media workers, and diplomatic representatives of different countries and international organizations participated in the conference so, it was a great opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas. The discussions comprehensively covered protecting human rights, creating a favorable environment of peace and security in the direction of the fight against neocolonialism and the elimination of colonialism
As a result, the international conference "Neocolonialism: Human Rights, Peace and Security" like other international events held by the Baku Initiative Group, became a significant platform to bring the current realities of means of analyzing and solving many issues in the context of colonialism and human rights violations to the attention of the world community.
In conclusion, the participants of the event expressed their deepest gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. llham Aliyev, Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, for attention, care, and the support provided to them in conveying their struggle voices to the world.
It should be noted that the conference held at the UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, is the IV international event organized by the Baku Initiative Group in 2023 to support the people fighting against colonialism and striving for freedom.
